The 1st International Scientific Conference Organized by the College of Industrial Management for Oil and Gas
"Developments in the Oil & Gas Industry and their Reflections on Sustainable Development in Iraq"
Under the patronage of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and supervised by the President of Basrah University for Oil and Gas, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Heleil Hafiz Al-Kaabi, with the follow-up of the Dean, Prof. Dr. Sami Obeid Al-Tamimi, the conference was held on February 11-12, 2026, with the participation of researchers from various universities.
The opening ceremony included the National Anthem and a tribute to Iraq’s martyrs. In his speech, the University President emphasized the conference's goal: generating high-quality recommendations to serve the oil sector and bridge the gap between academic institutions and the professional labor market through solid applied research.
Scientific Highlights:
Prof. Dr. Sami Al-Tamimi, head of the Scientific Committee, announced that 57 research papers are being presented across six specialized sessions, focusing on:
- Oil Economics and Management.
- Financial and Accounting disciplines.
- Technical Axis and the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in supporting the oil industry.
A key panel discussion titled "The Oil and Gas Industry: Environmental Challenges vs. Developmental Responsibility" was held, featuring experts from SOMO, the Basrah Provincial Council, and the Center for Basrah and Arab Gulf Studies.
The event concluded with an honors ceremony for speakers and supporting entities, including Shatt Al-Arab University, Al-Hadara University, Warith Al-Anbiya University, and several engineering firms, before moving to the technical breakout sessions.
